About Jacqui Small

Over 25 years experience working with children, adults and families.

Jacqueline Small has over 25 years experience working with children, adults and families providing individual, couples and family therapy in both Philadelphia and San Diego.

For 15 years, she managed a school based program in San Diego County providing an array of mental health services to children and adolescents with severe emotional and behavior problems. She has worked closely with special education departments creating innovative classroom settings that are designed to assist clients in meeting their mental health needs by reducing the symptoms of their emotional disabilities.

Additionally, she has worked as a Medical Social Worker at Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego for the past 20 years providing supportive counseling to children and their families during a medical and/or health crisis and previously held leadership roles as the Supervisor and Manager of Medical Social Work & Child Life.

She has extensive training in Behavior Modification and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and has facilitated several trainings and in-services over the years for multiple school districts within San Diego County.  She specializes in working with various disabilities including but not limited to: Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder/Attention Deficit Disorder, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Conduct Disorder, Intermittent Explosive Disorder, Depression, Anxiety, trauma and bereavement.  She has a passion for working with children and adolescents who have emotional and behavioral challenges and find children to be resilient, intriguing young individuals.  She also has extensive background in grief and loss and enjoys working with children and families who have experienced the loss of a loved one.

She has studied Human Development and Family Studies with a concentration in child and adolescent development at the Pennsylvania State University where she received her Bachelor of Science degree.  Following her undergraduate studies, she was accepted into the School of Social Work at Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania where she received her Master of Social Science degree with a concentration in practice with individuals, families and groups.  Jacqui was previously licensed in the state of Pennsylvania and has been licensed in the state of California as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker since 2004.  She is also a member of the National Association of Social Workers.
